Fleischman, P. (2007). Glass slipper, gold sandal: a worldwide cinderella. New York: Henery
Holt and Company. 16 pp. ISBN-13: 978-0-8050-7953-1
Paul Fleischman is a Newbery Award-Winning Author. This picture book is no exception to what he can do with a story. Fleischman layers the stories of Cinderella from around the world into one story. The story is fairly easy to follow along with. You will want to spend time looking at the illustrations and figuring out what country each line from the story is from. The illustrations keep the reader engaged by the use of bright, colorful illustrations. The story is the same as the Cinderella story we all know, except with differences in food, clothing, and animals depending on what country the line is from. This story would be great to use in a folktale lesson paired with the story of Cinderella we know. The other way you could use it is in a multicultural lesson showing how there is similar stories across the world but people change them based on what is important to them.
Why don't you collect all the Cinderella story and put them together in one unit? It's going to be quite interesting! And I would love to have a copy if you decide to do it :)
